Browns Heating up on Free Agency

The Browns have inked their first free agent signing this year with Robert Royal, a tight end with the Buffalo Bills. This is a noteworthy move by the new regime. Free agents should only be signed if the price is right and if they fit a specific need that the Team has. The Browns need a good blocking tight end, especially since Steve Heiden has his torn ACL and his surgery to overcome. Royal had also considered the Jets but chose Cleveland. In a statement he expressed distinct pleasure at joining the Browns. Royal is not inexperienced. He spent three seasons with the Bills and has been a pro for 8 years. He is 30 years old and thus should have a few good years left in him. Royal is a fairly big fellow at 6 foot 4 inches tall and more than 250 pounds. He is known particularly for his blocking ability and his leadership skills, both of which the Browns can benefit from. But he also has decent hands. He caught more than 80 passes and scored 7 touchdowns in his three years in Buffalo. He will very likely be our number one tight end. The Browns landed a good player with Royal.

Go Browns!
