Now it appears that it is Giants' wide receiver Domenik Hixon, rather than Steve Smith, who could be traded for Braylon Edwards.
The post immediately below this one contains the statistics last season for Smith. Hixon's numbers are very comparable: 43 receptions (less than Smith), 596 yards (more than Smith) and 2 touchdowns (more than Smith). The experience level is similar for Hixon and Smith (slight edge to Hixon). Hixon is significantly taller than Smith but a very lanky 182 pounds (lighter than Smith, and a lot smaller than Braylon).
The difference of course is that Hixon could always bulk-up 15 pounds or so while Smith cannot get any taller. Their speed and agility are fairly equal. On balance, we see it as largely six of one and half a dozen of the other.
The more important point is what else we would get in addition to Hixon. If nothing, forget it - keep Edwards. If one second round draft pick, forget it. If Hixon and two draft picks in the first three rounds, then do the deal.
Go Browns!
