With the ongoing Josh Cribbs saga, it is refreshing to see that two Brownies, wide receiver Braylon Edwards and quarterback Derek Anderson, have shown some real maturity and professionalism. They each deserve credit for doing so.
Edwards has been bashed in the media and rumoured to death in trade reports throughout the entire off-season. It would have been easy for him to start talking back against the Team or burying a hole to climb into. He has done neither. Instead, he spoke with the media last week while attending Team workouts at minicamp and emphasized three important things: that he is happy to remain in Cleveland; that he harbours no sourness over the trade rumours; and that he recognizes his very poor performance last season and the need for him to prove to everyone that 2007 was not a fluke. Show us just that, Braylon.
With Derek Anderson, he had the difficult experience last week of watching Brady Quinn lead the Team at minicamp and take the first reps while Mangini declared publicly that Quinn had the lead in the quarterback competition. That must be difficult for Derek. He has gone from a Pro Bowler after the 2007 season to a young man fighting uphill for the starting job. We are happy that Quinn looks like the early favourite, but we would be remiss for not commending Anderson for being very mature and professional throughout this process. He never seems bitter towards the Team, Quinn, the fans or Mangini. Thank you for being a Team player, Derek.
Go Browns!
