NFLPA Backs Off Attempts to Penalize Browns For Charitable Efforts

The NFLPA was reportedly upset about a trip that the Browns rookies took on a bus a while back. The trip was the brainchild of Mangini; travel to his roots in Hartford and run a day camp for underprivileged youth and their parents.

It appears that the Players' Association was concerned that the trip was so far and that the rookies felt compelled to attend during minicamp activities.

When we first heard about this story, we felt ill. The kids who participated were overjoyed according to the Hartford media. Mangini was proud to wave the orange and brown. This was not a slam to Cleveland. On the contrary, the Browns are involved in countless of youth charitable events every year in Cleveland. The boys and girls in Brownstown are lucky to reap the benefits of Lerner's philanthropic efforts.

Since nobody was complaining, the NFLPA has dropped the issue. It should never have arisen in the first place. Gimme a break. Until the PA starts penalizing any player who does charity work in his home town rather than the town that he plays football in, back off!
