If you are a Cleveland Sports fan, the summer of 2009 has been slow, uneventful, and flat out boring. The Cavs made some news by acquiring 15-time All Star , Shaquille O'Neal and other free agents, but the Indians have virtually been off the radar all year. Now, with the rumors flying that they may trade core players Cliff Lee and Victor Martinez, they may sink further into the abyss and completely out of the minds of fans.
Fear not, football season is here to rescue all of us. Today, Browns rookies report to training while the rest of the team will join them on August 1st. It seems training camp is becoming more and more popular with fans every year. It has the feeling of baseball's spring training. With fans, especially Browns fans, it gives them a sense of optimism and hope.
This year for the Browns, once again, brings in a new regime and fans are looking forward to how Coach Eric Mangini will run things. Even though he has not coached a game yet, it feels like Mangini has been here for years. Since he was hired in January, every move Mangini has made from player additions to facility renovations has been talked about and analyzed. For the Browns, there was no offseason. Even though the Cavs were having their best season ever, it seemed like everyday on local Sports radio someone was talking Browns.
Now that training will be starting, it will be all Browns all the time, especially when it come to Derek Anderson and Brady Quinn. Now, Cleveland sports fans can finally come out of hibernation and get excited about something. Thank goodness football season is here.
